The Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) will be hosting a meeting of District Six, comprising the non-North American real estate member jurisdictions of the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) which is headquartered in the United States, in Sandton during May 2010.
ARELLO is an international real estate regulatory association comprising the official governmental agencies of some eighty worldwide independent real estate regulatory jurisdictions which issue estate agency licences and/or registrations and/or which regulate estate agency practice and enforce estate agency law. The EAAB has been a respected member of ARELLO for a considerable period of time while the Chief Executive Officer of the EAAB currently serves as senior Vice-President of that organisation.
In addition to such dignitaries as dti Minister, Rob Davies; CEO of the EAAB, Nomonde Mapetla; President of the Institute of Estate Agents of South Africa, Andrew Golding; well known economist, Russell Lamberti; CEO of the Financial Intelligence Centre, Murray Michell; and CEO of the Bankers Council, Cas Coovadia, the ARELLO District 6 Meeting will be attended by senior members of the ARELLO leadership and international real estate regulators as well as by representatives of key SA governmental departments, the estate agency profession and the property industry, the financial services sector, statutory regulators and consumer organisations.
The opportunity will be utilised both to present South Africa as a safe and secure market of choice for real estate investments as well as to debate the resurgence of this market as South Africa cautiously begins to emerge from the recent recession. Consideration will also be given to the various factors precipitating the world-wide economic downturn as well as to the valuable lessons that can be learned from the experiences of other worldwide real estate regulatory jurisdictions and economic role-players. The hosting of the event by the EAAB is also designed to encourage active participation in ARELLO by SADC member states as well as Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia, all of whom will be represented at the meeting.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, will present the opening keynote address when he will deal with, ‘How prudent financial regulation helped South Africa to survive the economic meltdown’.
Nomonde Mapetla, the CEO of the EAAB, believes that “The ARELLO District Six meeting will provide delegates with an invaluable opportunity to understand the dynamics of the property sector and market. Delegates will be encouraged to share resources and to network with each other.”
She continued “We are confident that this international meeting will not only position the EAAB as the authoritative voice of the estate agency profession in South Africa but ensure that estate agency professionals receive due recognition from government and the private sector for the invaluable role which they play in the economy.”
