New africa CEO to take ernst & young to even greater heights
Ernst & Young just announced that it has appointed Ajen Sita as its CEO for Africa, effective 1 July 2010. Ajen succeeds Philip Hourquebie who has held the position for the past 14 years.
Sita, the current Ernst & Young Head of Assurance for Africa says: “This appointment comes at an extremely exciting time for Ernst & Young and the African continent. As the world takes stronger interest in the potential that our continent has to offer, our firm and clients are already benefiting from our new way of operating following our commitment two years ago to integrate all of our practices in Africa into a single business.”
Ernst & Young has gone from strength to strength since its Africa integration. “For our people, diversity of experiences remains a priority, and our integration has provided us with many career opportunities through mobility across Africa, making us the employer of choice,” says Sita.
Mark Otty, Area Managing Partner for Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) comments that both Philip Hourquebie, who will lead the firm in Central and Southern Europe, and Ajen Sita’s appointments are part of an ongoing programme within Ernst & Young to ensure that we retain the best people for the long-term success of our business and our clients.
Sita’s appointment is reflective of Ernst & Young’s commitment and success in developing home grown talent. Sita joined Ernst & Young in 1993 as a trainee accountant with initial focus on entrepreneurial growth companies and later developing deep experience in the technology and telecoms sectors. He was made a Partner in 1999 at the age of 27, and in 2001 he was appointed to lead the Entrepreneurial Services division. Following this, Sita became the South African Head of Audit in 2006 and Africa Assurance Leader in 2008.
Sita has a long-standing commitment to the development of people and the transformation of the profession. He is the Chairman of the Thuthuka Education Upliftment Fund (“Thuthuka”) which is the body driving the race and gender transformation of the accounting profession in South Africa. In addition, during his tenure, Ernst & Young has consistently achieved a number one or two position amongst the Big Four firms in the Final Qualifying Exam for new Chartered Accountants.
